The above photo dramatizes the hatred that was shown towards blacks during the 1920's at a time when many Blacktowns were thriving in America. Yes, believe it or not, because of segregation, many blacks were prospering because they were forced to be united. United as if they were in a war. Blacks also possessed numerous farming and vocational skills as a result of slavery, that whites did not have. And this is why numerous inventions of the 1920s were by blacks. But as blacks prosperity began to attract white's attention, whites began to show their jealously and every Blacktown in America was eventually terrorized and burned down. The most popular example of this hatred is the burning of the Blacktown called BLACKWALLSTREET, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Blacktown called ROSEWOOD in Florida was also destroyed by jealous whites; and a movie was eventually made about this tragedy. The movie was called Rosewood. Another movie called RAGTIME, starring the late Howard Rollins Jr. also dramatized the hatred that whites had for black's growing prosperity during the so-called roaring 1920s. The movie Ragtime was about a proud and dignified black man who owned a car, at a time when the car was just invented, and thus, many whites did not even own one, so they were very jealous.
